Did you know? According to incomplete statistics, more than 80% of the deaths in fires were caused by injuries from smoke poisoning or burns after suffocation from thick smoke!
On April 10, 2024 , a catastrophic fire at Wah Fung Building on Jordan Road caused at least five deaths and many people were in critical condition. Some of the deceased were suspected to have died of "inhalation injury". Emergency specialists pointed out that inhalation injury refers to the victim inhaling extremely hot smoke, which causes severe burns to the upper respiratory tract due to the heat, resulting in swelling and suffocation, and ultimately death. Therefore, the chances of escaping a fire under the influence of toxic smoke are very slim.
When a fire occurs, using an escape hood (filter-type fire-fighting self-rescue respirator) can filter out toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, which can greatly increase people's chances of escape.
The gas filter canister of the escape hood can effectively protect against toxic gases and smoke produced by the combustion of various materials, and has a good protective function against toxic gases such as CO (carbon monoxide) and chlorine.
In addition, the hood is made of flame-retardant material. When it is close to the flame, the hood will not burn or melt, and it can resist the damage of high temperature radiation to the human head.
When using a smoke mask, remember the formula of "first take out, second pull out, third tighten" ;
One-take (take out the breathing mask from the packaging box)
Second pull (pull out the two red rubber plugs at the front and rear holes of the canister)
Three tighten (put the hood on your head, place the canister in front of your nose, and then tighten the headband to cover your head tightly)
After putting on the hood, breathe calmly and choose the safest route to the emergency exit to escape.
Note the following situations
Generally speaking, escape hoods are for one-time use and can only be used by one person.
A normal, qualified fire escape helmet can generally be used continuously for about 40 minutes. However, it cannot be used in an environment with too low oxygen content, because the hood itself cannot generate oxygen, and the minimum oxygen concentration cannot be lower than 17%.
Once the vacuum packaging is torn, it can only be used immediately and cannot be stored and reused! If it is damaged, it cannot be used!
